Each individual taking the training, you MUST send your certificate via email to the Department Chairman and copy your Division/League Chairman! This is the only way to verify you took the training. We do not have a report function for the training as we do for the background checks.
Adult Abuse Training and Pitch Smart training available on https://www.legion.org/baseball/resources or USA Baseball training available on www.americanlegion.education. Department Chairman must track proof of training and will check box for training accomplishment to approve coach to be on roster. Send a copy of your certificate to Department Chairman.
Must have completed for ALL prior to approval of Team Application and again for approval of Team Roster.

Go to American Legion National website, create a user account...then follow the workflow directions. http://legion.org/baseball
After setting up your account, you will be able to "Add or Renew Team" and the workflow will take you through 2 phases: 1. Creating your Team Application and 2. Creating your Team Roster.
For each of these phases you will need to hit the "Submit" button to send it to Department Chairman for REVIEW and APPROVAL; and you will need receive Chairman's approval by the due dates (see above important dates) and the dates will be visible within the National on-line registration tool.
We have our 2022 ALB insurance premiums from K&K Insurance. Teams may begin purchasing insurance and paying fees on Tuesday, February 15.

Department of Virginia Team Registration Fees for either Senior or Junior Team = $300 per team. Team Registration Fees permit us to run post-season Department tournaments.

The American Legion will once again award a scholarship of $500 to a deserving American Legion Baseball player selected from Virginia Legion teams.
The application process is the same as in previous years. 1) The original scholarship application is due at Department Headquarters by July 15th; 2) The department must select a winner by July 30, 2022; and 3) The Certification of Department Winner and original application must be mailed to the American Legion World Series Headquarters no later than close of business on Friday, August 5, 2022, to be consider for the 2022 All-Academic Team. The Department Baseball Committee is responsible for selecting a player that demonstrates outstanding leadership, citizenship, character, and financial need.
Disbursement of the scholarship funds through online request will be made available jointly to the student and the school after September 1. Department winners will receive via email from national a Certificate of Scholarship and instructions on how to claim funds online.
Congratulations to Johnny Oates from American Legion Post 284 Colonial Heights Buccaneers for being selected for the Department of Virginia Baseball Scholarship Award for 2021. We were recently notified Johnny was further selected for the All Regional Scholarship Team. Johnny was a member of Post 284 Colonial Heights Buccaneers. Johnny led his team to the Championship game in 2021.
Jonathan attended William Monroe High School where he was an honor-roll student all four years and involved in the FFA. Jonathan has volunteered in his community with special needs baseball players as well as coaching and umpiring at the local youth center. Jonathan was a four-year varsity baseball starter and two-year captain at William Monroe where he earned all-district (4 years, 2018 Pitcher of the Year), all-conference (3 years), all-region (2 years), and all-state (1 year) as well as all-Central Virginia (2 years) honors. Jonathan will be continuing his academic and baseball career at Bridgewater College this fall, 2019. Jonathan was also a member of the Albemarle Post 74 Virginia state championship team in 2017 where he was honored with the Sportsmanship Award.

Department of Virginia Junior Division Champion 2019
The summer of 2019 was memorable for 17 young men on the American Legion Post 21 Junior Baseball Team. The team consisted of players 17 years of age and younger from Handley, James Wood, Sherando, and Millbrook High Schools. The team finished with a record of 19 wins and 5 losses culminating with a Junior Legion State Championship. Post 21 went undefeated during district play, won the district tournament, and beat some of the best teams in Maryland to win the Southern Maryland Independence Day Classic. Thirteen players hit over a .300 batting average, including Drew Franchok (.466) Lucas Whitacre (.415), and Timmy Hughes (.413) who were the only players to hit over .400. Pitchers were led by Nathan White (1.94 ERA, 3 wins), Jaime Tinsman (2.97 ERS, 6 wins), and Ronnie Hileman (3.44 ERA, 5 wins). Lucas Whitacre and Trevor Wright completed the season with a perfect fielding percentage followed by catchers Robbie Hummer (.988) and William Croyle (.976) who each only committed an amazing one error behind the dish the entire season. Team members include: Daniel Copenhaver, William Croyle, Hayden Cunningham, Jacob Duffy, David English, Drew Franchok, Ronnie Hileman, Timmy Hughes, Robbie Hummer, Dalton Krossman, Tanner Muller, Jayden Nixon, Jacob steward, Jaime Tinsman, Lucas Whitacre, Nathan White, and Trevor Wright. Head coach: Marc Timmons. Assistant Coaches: Lucas Barbe and Kyle Armistead. General Manager: Nate Eback.
